A KING OF THE EAST AWAKES
Revelation 16: 12-16 prophesies
that the way of “the kings of the East” is to be prepared to provide easier
passage of their massive armies into northern Israel’s Armageddon Valley where
the Biblical battle of Armageddon is to take place on the last day of the
Tribulation. These kings include Russia, China, and the other minor Asiatic
nations. Understandably, the world stage must be set in place before the actual
drama can begin.
We stand in amazement as we watch the largest of these kings, now awakened from
centuries-old slumber, marching toward global influence. Its exploding economy
has tipped the world on its axis. Should we be concerned?
For centuries, China was the world’s most advanced nation. Marco Polo reported
after his visit, in the 13th century, that China had paper currency and an
efficient postal service. This was long before Europe even thought of it.
The rise of Christianity and Romanism took attention away from China, as the
rest of the world became involved in the development of Europe under the rigid
rule of Roman Catholicism.
But, China was also changing. Beijing’s Forbidden City, completed in 1422,
remains the largest palace complex in the world. The famous Great Wall,
stretches farther than the distance from New York to Los Angeles.
After 40 years of war and political turmoil, the communists seized power in
1949. China then suffered through another 40 years of brutal government
policies.
Under 2 decades of a more pragmatic Communist government, China is using a new
approach to reclaiming the supremacy of its past—mixing capitalism with
communism. With the raw desire to grow, her masses are infused with a profound
sense of destiny, with a steely determination to be the next super-power in
world affairs.
Taking advantage of the steadily weakening United States by its growing
dependency upon foreign goods, China is transforming itself into one of the
world’s most powerful marketplaces, producing an economy that is growing faster
than any other in modern history.
She has now become the world’s 2nd largest purchaser of oil—the main reason
behind today’s higher prices. China will soon buy more cars, computers, and
appliances than any other nation on the planet. Its economy is growing at 9% per
year, and will likely become the second largest producer in the world by 2020,
behind the United States, and will surpass the U.S. in many areas of production.
Last year, Americans spent $162 billion more on Chinese goods than the Chinese
spent on U.S. products. That gap continues to widen by more than 25% per year.
Stapleton Roy, former U.S. ambassador to China said that China’s growth “could
be the dominant event of this century.” He added, “Never before has a country
risen as fast as China is doing.” Y

There are real concerns that another Soviet Union may be in the making,
fat with cash, eager to buy the latest missiles, satellites, and other advanced
weapons. China has no enemies to fear. There is no need for her to build her
military beyond its present level. She is already capable of winning any
confrontation.
Strangely, China’s military budget is much higher than it acknowledges. She has
probably the 3rd largest military in the world. “Since no nation threatens
China,” said Mr. Roy, “one must wonder: Why this growing investment?”
The long-standing trade quotas expired January, 2005. Since then, Chinese
textile imports to the U.S. have jumped by 48%, prompting the Bush
administration to enact new quotas to protect U.S. jobs.
China uses a fixed exchange rate, making Chinese products even cheaper than they
would be if they joined the rest who operate under a floating economy.

The prize is jobs and prosperity
A recent report by the National Intelligence Council warns that by 2020, China’s
growth could drive the world’s most powerful companies to lean more toward the
east than the west. This will upset national economies, and cause massive
displacement of middle-class workers in the United States and Europe.
The frightening prospect is that this will make the U.S. “increasingly
irrelevant.” In plain English—this movement will spell the end of super-power
status for the United States. Ted Fishman wrote in his bestseller, China Inc.,
“It will not be Communist militarists that most threaten the U.S. standard of
living, but a Communist-capitalist rival that is a much more formidable economic
competitor.” Y
They are flocking to China, discovering how the new
buildings look like ours. There is more to it than the pitiful 50 cents-an-hour
assembly workers get, and the use of child-labor. Top American companies also
want to build products to sell to the Chinese.
In the 1980’s, China began encouraging foreign multinational companies to form
joint ventures with state-owned companies, making them closet-capitalists.
Emboldened by success, China will soon export its own car, and is now proudly
putting its name on products sold around the world.
The Japanese could not conquer us militarily. However, they have made us
dependent on them economically, undercutting us through manufacturing with cheap
labor.
China is using a similar formula. They flood the market with cheaper priced
goods, forcing American companies to fold up, unable to compete with the unfair
import freedoms. American companies often can’t export their product. China has
already beat them there with products that they can sell dirt-cheap because they
pay only 50 cents per hour to their laborers. Europe is feeling the squeeze more
so than the U.S. at this writing. The value of the Euro has plummeted in 2005.
The economic policy of the Europeans must be altered significantly if the EU is
to remain intact. PM Tony Blair, new head of the European Union is sure to make
every effort to see that European nations adjust to the increasing influence of
cheap Chinese products.
The U.S. is pushing CAFTA to provide fair trade quotas and union guarantees for
both American, as well as Central American products. The flood of Chinese goods
will put millions out of business if a balance is not found and enforced which
will allow a freer flow of U.S. goods into other countries.
The other side of this problem is the general public. National pride has been
stripped away from many by liberal politicians. Both Japanese and Chinese
investors are buying up huge amounts of U.S. real estate, and businesses.
Americans watch helplessly. Americans can afford better, but we are suckers for
a bargain, failing to realize the national effect foreign purchases have on the
local job market. When Chinese goods reach the saturation point in the U.S.,
look for long unemployed lines.
China, Japan, Russia, and the EU envision the fall of the United States as the
world’s Super-power. When that day comes, there will be a mad scramble to fill
in the resulting void. This could well be the time when all nations align with
the One-World vision. A federation of 10 Kingdoms will soon form. When this has
been accomplished, the 70th Week of Daniel’s prophecy will begin (see Dan.
7:7-8, 23-24).
On the very first day of the 70th Week (better known as the Tribulation), the
world’s final dictator will step center-stage into the public, political
spotlight. The scriptures prophecy this world-changing development, calling this
brutal man—“Antichrist.”
How will the world be able to recognize Antichrist? Quite easily. Daniel 9:27
states that he will broker and ratify an historic seven-year peace treaty
between the Moslems and Israel. He will break this covenant 3 1/2 years later by
a massive invasion of Israel, uniting many Moslem military forces against the
Jewish State (Dan. 9:27; 8:25). This huge invasion will be so overwhelming that
Israel will lose the war, and will be forced to retreat from her country,
fleeing into the neighboring kingdom of Jordan (Dan. 11:40-42).
Israel’s forced exile into Petra will last only 3 1/2 years. It will be climaxed
with the physical return of Yeshua from heaven back to this earth, accompanied
by all His holy angels and glorified saints (Matt. 25:31-34; Zech. 14:5; Jude
14; Rev. 19:11-21). Messiah will destroy the converging armies from around the
globe in the famous Valley of Armageddon on the last day of Daniel’s 70th Week.
Messiah will give all of the land He has promised to the Jewish people after the
one-day battle is concluded (Gen. 12:1-7;15:7, 18; 17:8; Heb. 11:8-9; etc.).
