CHINESE SPIES IN U.S.
Aimed to break our economy—preparing for war?
The recent arrests of a Caucasian couple along with a couple of Chinese origin has awakened the American public to a little-known serious problem in the United States. There are spies among us who are determined to wreck this great nation.
According to a US Today report, technical information from the company who employed them has encrypted unclassified U.S. Navy research material copied onto compact disks that were nabbed by U.S. G-men as the Chinese couple was about to board a plane bound from L.A. to China.
Details of the government’s surveillance of this family given in court documents, claim that the material disclosed would enable an enemy to track and kill American sailors.
FBI agents found four Chinese language “tasking lists” in the couple’s home which itemized specific technologies that China wants. They included “aircraft carrier electronic systems” and “submarine propulsion technology.” The Chinese spy, now in custody, was a senior engineer working on power systems for Navy submarines. China urged him to join professional associations and attend advanced research seminars.
These arrests took place Oct. 28, 2005, after a 20-month probe. This is but one among many Chinese spy cases that have come to light, exposing an aggressive Chinese espionage campaign that vacuums up advanced American technology secrets from both defense and civilian companies. They could face up to 45 years in jail. However, legal loopholes eased their punishment. The woman expects only 3 years, her husband, 10. Two others get probation. Aug. 1, Judge Cormac Carney will hear Mak’s motion for a new trial.
Joel Brenner, national counterintelligence executive, said, “The Chinese are putting on a full-court press in this area….They are trying to flatten out the world as fast as possible.” “One of the ways they accelerate that process is economic espionage. If you can steal something rather than figure it out yourself, you save years. You gain an advantage. “
Brenner directs the United States’ counterspy efforts in the office of the director of national intelligence. He said that China’s technology thieving is “the norm” among industrialized nations. However, China, along with Russia, Cuba, India and Iran, stand out as the most active nations in their spying efforts.
Beijing’s goals
About 1/3 of all economic espionage investigations are linked to a multitude of Chinese government agencies, research institutes or businesses, according to Bruce Carlson of the FBI’s counterintelligence division. He leads the bureau’s efforts to combat Chinese spying. Since 2001, the number of FBI investigations of suspected Chinese economic espionage cases has risen an alarming 12%. “The basis for the whole program is money. People (in the USA) are looking to make a buck. China has money to spend,” said Carlson.
Communist China is determined to replace the U.S. as the next world super-power.
Why America is losing
in economic competition
Various factors have drastically reduced American national pride.
1. The spread of godlessness resulting from restrictions put on Christian teaching.
2. The favored treatment given to false cults who operate within our borders has given them an edge in influencing the Biblically deprived.
3. The lifting of restrictions for goods entering this country from abroad while U.S. goods remain restricted to their countries.
4. Unfair trading practices by many nations against the United States, especially China, which uses a very low, fixed interest rate when selling her goods abroad. All other countries allow a floating rate for global fairness.
5. The flood of foreign goods sold on the wholesale level at drastically lower cost than U.S. companies can possibly meet, due to China and India’s use of child-labor at 50 cents per hour and adult labor at $1.50 per hour. This is impossible to compete with.
As a result, millions of American businesses have crashed. Flint, Michigan, home of General Motors, is a ghost-town. Buicks are now made in China, other auto companies have moved to Mexico and elsewhere. Walmart has built many massive factories in China to supply her American stores. It seems clear that America is being forced from her leadership role as the world’s Super-power, and is losing its ability to guide the world away from moral chaos.
Different from
the Cold-war
China’s technology-targeting differs from old, cold-war era spying, which pitted American intelligence against KGB counterparts.
Besides using professional spies, China also takes advantage of the thousands of Chinese and Chinese-American engineers, researchers, scientists and students who fill key positions in U.S. industry and academia, say counterintelligence officials.
Spies driven by greed
and national roots
As is often the case in spying opportunities, , the “love of money” is a prime driving force. In addition, foreigners now living here retain a strong pull to help the land of their roots by stealing American know-how.
Beijing often capitalizes on “espionage entrepreneurs:” engineers or executives who exploit their positions in U.S. companies to pilfer corporate data desired by China, with her insatiable determination to catch up and surpass the West.
Two San Jose, California men pleaded guilty last December on two counts each of economic espionage for stealing trade secrets from Sun Microsystems and semiconductor maker Transmeta. They face up to 30 years in jail.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Greg Staples argued that documents found in Mak’s home dealing with the F-16 fighter and NASA’s space shuttle were from program’s that Chung had worked on at Boeing. Mak’s conviction by a federal jury was followed by guilty pleas by the four other relatives involved in a long-running spy plot.
Two more Chinese former co-workers at Transmeta, in Santa Clara, Calif. admitted to sending secrets to produce computer chips for a firm they had established in Hangzhou, China.
The list of spies working for Russia, Cuba, India, Iran and China is a very long one.
The spying campaigns of these countries are designed to lower the U.S. economically to the same level as other poorer countries in the world. If they succeed, Americans may find themselves barely eking out a living, and forced to give up most conveniences which are common today.
Will America lose her
leadership role in the world?
Let’s admit the facts. The moral compromises made by America since the Vietnam era include the removal of Bibles from many public places, and a “politically correct” campaign which planted fear of reprisal in the minds of any who dare to bring God into a conversation. We must look seriously at the policy of the killing of millions of pre-birth babies through abortion, as well as the giving of equal status to Sodomites and the increased favoritism afforded to the many false cults at the expense of stifling good moral teaching by Jews and Christians. These immoral practices have resulted in the Almighty permitting increased calamities to smite the U.S. from coast to coast. The growing list of disasters striking this country are prime evidence that the protective hand of God may be now lifting off of this once great nation.

Holy Spirit moves in
Prophecy Conventions
Fred and Darlene left the Abundant Harvest Ministries office in May to preach several conventions and revivals. Their first stop was to preach a convention in Dandridge, TN. Fred shared the slate with such popular preachers as John Kilpatrick (pastor of the Brownsville, FL revival), Tommy Tenney (God Chasers), Dick Mills, and Judy Jacobs.
Next, they traveled to Many, LA, where Fred preached a prophecy conference at Siloam Southern Baptist Church. It was record-breaking in many ways. Several came to Christ for salvation and a huge number of people rededicated their lives to Christ—including their beloved pastor.
The Shmidts then traveled to Fort Worth, TX for a prophecy conference at the beautiful Faith Tabernacle Assembly of God. Pastor Martin was thrilled with the precious moving of the Holy Spirit around the altars. Great good was done here despite the daily heavy downpours of rains that flooded many areas.
The following week, Fred and Darlene enjoyed fellowshipping with their grand daughter, Morgan Milby, at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX. They stayed on base for the week as Morgan finished her training and was preparing to be moved to Kansas.
The next Sunday, Fred spoke at Church of the Wildwood in Canyon Lake, TX. It was great to see friends they had met in previous revivals at this quaint church nestled in a beautiful, wooded setting.
Then, the Shmidts enjoyed ministering for their fourth time at First Assembly of God in Kerrville, TX. Pastor Perkins and their congregation, were join by other church congregations to ingest the Word of God with eagerness in this outstanding prophecy conference.
Fred and Darlene spoke one night at Joy Fellowship in Birmingham, AL. Pastor “Buddy” Pope, general manager and lead singer of the Southmen Quartette has finally become shepherd of this fine church.
From Birmingham, the Shmidts next preached a campmeeting at Open Arms Tabernacle Church of God in Brevard, NC. What a glorious week it was! A powerful anointing rested upon Fred as he preached to great crowds made up of several church congregations who had gathered for a time of old-fashioned campmeeting with an end-time theme.
Afterward, Fred preached a great prophecy conference at Boone’s Creek Southern Baptist Church in Johnson City, TN. Eager to learn more about God’s prophetic plan, and the latest developments that are fulfilling Bible prophecy, the sanctuary was packed nightly, filling also chairs placed in the open spaces. Many area ministers and their members joined in. Hundreds of Fred’s television viewing audience traveled from Virginia and Kentucky to attend. Several came to Christ for salvation and many rededicated their lives to Messiah Jesus. Outstanding!
Russia Fortifying
Military—increases
Spying
Russian president Vladimir Putin further distanced himself from America and the Europeans by strongly vowing to strengthen Russia’s military capability and to increase spying abroad. The announcement, made July 25th, was in response to U.S. plans to build missile-defense sites and to deploy a small number of troops in Eastern Europe.
Putin said in a meeting with senior military and security officers, “The situation in the world and internal political interests require the Foreign Intelligence Service (formerly the KGB), to permanently increase its capabilities, primarily in the field of information and analytical support for the country’s leadership.”
While Putin did not specify certain nations as targets, officials in the United States and Britain have said recently that Moscow has intensified its spying against both.
Washington’s intention to base missile-defense sites in Poland and the Czech Republic are so miniscule that they cannot pose a hazard to Russia. They are designed to protect Europe and the U.S. from missile attacks from Iran or another of the rogue states.
Putin has proposed that the U.S. use a Soviet-built radar base in Azerbaijan for the missile defense base. The United States has quietly questioned whether the facility is technically compatible with American systems. I, too, question the wisdom of using a Soviet-owned base. First, the Russians could easily bug the facility with newly developed listening devices. Second, should a disagreement arise, how can one guarantee that the Russians won’t demand immediate evacuation. Third, the Russians are good with jamming devices and know every inch of their base. They may have the capability of rendering our full use of defensive missile shields very limited or virtually useless.
Putin made the statement that America was “stonewalling on the subject, saying, “Alternative ways of protection from hypothetical missile threats which we proposed have been left unanswered.” Putin continued, “All-around strengthening of our military forces is one of our indisputable priorities.” He promised to continue equipping the Russian military with new weapons.
Earlier in July, Putin suspended Russia’s participation in the 1990 NATO Conventional Forces in Europe treaty (CFE) and threatened to withdraw from it completely if NATO nations do not ratify its amended 1999 version, to reflect changes since the 1991 Soviet collapse.
NATO members have refused to do that until Russia withdraws its troops from the former Soviet republics of Moldova and Georgia.
Russia’s relations with the United States and other Western nations have grown increasingly acidic amid concerns that Russia is edging away from democracy and the Kremlins suspicions about the West’s intentions.
Putin is a former officer of the Soviet-era KGB. He is to step down next year, after eight years as Russia’s president.
