FRENCH & DUTCH
SAY “NO” TO EU

Special report from FRED SHMIDT

In a move that shocked all of Europe, France’s president, Jacque Chirak announced that the citizens of France voted against the new European Union constitution, Sunday, May 29.
On Tuesday, May 31, 61.6 % of the citizens of the Netherlands also said no to the newly formed EU constitution.

Ratification of the EU constitution would create a “united states” of Europe, and would push that part of the world into the flow toward a one-world government. It would also become stiff competition against the United States, with potential for redirecting the flow of goods to member nations instead of the U.S. The possibility is that Europe could replace the U.S. as the world’s super-power.

The rejection of the EU constitution by these two countries has shaken the entire European community of nations. Talk is circulating that if other nations follow suit, the EU could collapse in its present form. Tony Blair is next in line to be head the EU. His leadership could bring a restructuring of the European Union into a new form. If the split among EU nations is permanent, there is the distinct possibility that a new, separate federation will take shape. All 25 members of the EU must also vote on the ratification.

Dutch citizens gave popular reasons why they voted against ratifying the EU constitution:

  • The Euro dollar has inflated prices considerably,

  • The loss of national identity, customs, traditions,

  • The flood of immigrants, mostly Muslims into their borders,

  • The EU plan to include Turkey, a Muslim, non-European country, into the fold,

  • The EU plan to include other Muslim, non-European countries as members,

  • The too-fast pace of changes forced upon member nations.
Could these moves be the catalyst that will bring the Ten Kingdoms into reality as prophesied in Daniel 7:7-8, 23-24?

There are three possibilities as to how and where the 10 kingdoms will form: (1) this split among the European nations could bring about a narrowing down of the EU member nations to the number 10. (2) a breakaway from the EU could form a federation of 10 kingdoms separate from the EU. (3) a separate, new federation could form among the Muslim states who now occupy regions that were once a part of the Roman Empire in the Near and Middle-east. I am watching the flow of these developments with keen interest. Y

TURKEY, EGYPT, AZERBAIJAN TO PIPE GAS TO ISRAEL

Special report from FRED SHMIDT

Russian president Vladimir Putin has visited Prime Minister Ariel Sharon in Israel and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Turkey recently. Insiders think he may have given a push to a project that has been talked about for several years—to bring Russian natural gas to Israel via an underwater pipeline from Turkey.

Turkey has a surplus of Russian natural gas it imports via the 2-year old Blue Stream pipeline, which runs 243 miles along the bottom of the Black Sea from Dzhuba in Russia to Samsun on the Turkish coast.

The original plan has been revived and expanded—to run a spur south to Israel that carries natural gas, electricity, and a fiber optic cable for transmitting high-speed data. Turkey has already made a deal to export fresh water from Turkey’s Goksu River to Israel. Another water pipeline deal was signed in late 2002 that would export fresh water from the Manavgat River. No practical steps have been taken to move that project forward.

The combination pipeline would start in the Turkish Mediterranean port city of Ceyhan and stretch underwater to Haifa, Israel. From there, it would continue on to the Palestinian territories and to Jordan. The huge project could cost at least $3 billion, which was the final cost of the Blue Stream project.

Ceyhan is also the terminus for a soon-to-be completed pipeline bringing Caspian Sea crude oil from Azerbaijan to Turkey. There are also plans to transport Caspian natural gas to Ceyhan along the same route as the oil pipeline. This could mean that Israel would not be solely dependent on Russian gas if a pipeline were built to Haifa. Israel is also set to sign a deal for the purchase of Egyptian natural gas. This makes strategic sense for Israel, an Israeli official said. “It could help develop better relations between Israel and Turkey and it would diversify [Israel’s] energy supplies.”

Russia wants more customers for its vast supply of natural gas, and to increase its influence in the Middle East. Turkey is looking to establish itself as a regional energy transport hub.

The Scriptures state that Turkey will become more influential in these times. She is mentioned as a probable member of the Ten Kingdoms that is to arise before the beginning of the Tribulation and before the entry of Antichrist on the public world scene (Jer. 51:27-33; Dan. 7:7-8, 24). Y

The Return of the Hammer & Sickle

The Soviet Union, on June 12, 1987, heard President Ronald Reagan as he stood before the Brandenburg Gate in what was West Berlin as he issued a challenge bordering on an ultimatum to the then Soviet dictator Mikhail Gorbachev: “General Secretary Gorbachev: if you seek peace, if you seek prosperity for the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, if you seek liberalization: Come here to this gate! Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!”

On June 13, 1990, civilian hammers began to pound away at the infamous Berlin Wall that held East Germans captive since its construction in 1961. Optimism soared when the wall came down in dusty ruins. Families embraced in tears of joy. The Soviet Union disintegrated in December, 1991, pulling down 70 years of communist corruption and socialist delusion. The door to evangelize was opened, and Christian missionaries poured through it.

Most thought that this was the beginning of freedom and democracy for them. We were told that the new Russia would be more of an ally than the enemy it was for so many years. A mass exodus to the West followed. Hundreds of thousands of Jews have immigrated to Israel and other Western nations, led by a Jewish survivor of the Siberian gulag, Natan Sharansky.

I cautioned those who expressed relief and confidence in the new freedoms, not to expect this to be long-term. Why did I say that?

First, the Word of God reveals that the anti-God, anti-Christ, imperialistic demon forces will be driving the Russian region during the days of the future Tribulation period. That is a strong indicator that current reforms are only temporary.

The much admired Israeli general, Moshe Dayan said, “The key to war in the Middle East is in the hands of the Soviets, while the key to peace is held by the United States.”

Russia’s record of supplying military equipment to other nations reveals her support to those anti-god nations who are the most vitriolic enemies of Israel and the U.S.  Y

The Stirring of the Russian “Bear”

Early in 2005, Russia cancelled most of Syria’s $10 billion debt and revived their once intimate relationship that reached its peak in the Cold-War days of the mid—1950’s, and came to a screeching halt with the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Missile Sales to Syria

The Russians have reportedly agreed to sell advanced missiles to Syria. Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon protested to Moscow to no avail.

Nuclear fuel to Iran

Russia made an agreement with Iran to assist them in advancing their nuclear program, and to supply Iran’s nuclear plants with the special fuel, raising strong concerns in Israel, Europe and the U.S. > Palestinian Authority

Meets with Putin

The first trip of the new Palestinian Authority’s leader, Mahmoud Abbas, was to Russia for a private meeting with President Vladimir Putin. This was intended to demonstrate the “respect” the Muslim Palestinian Arabs have toward the Russians and their role as a major player on the world scene, particularly in the Middle East.

Christians and Jews Branded as “extremists” By Russia’s Duma

On January 30, 2005, 20 members of Russia’s Duma (lower house of parliament) asked that all religious and ethnic Jewish organizations be investigated. They claimed that Jews are the cause of the anti-Semitism that has reemerged in the country in recent years. The charge is hauntingly reminiscent of the deadly effective lies that instigated the vicious “blood libels” from the Russian play, “Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion.”

Evangelical Christians are also feeling the heat. The Russian Orthodox Church hierarchy are trying to stop the giant success of Bible-believing Christians among the spiritually emaciated people long fed mere sterile formalism. Evangelicals are being branded as cultists who prey on unsuspecting citizens. The once underground churches are now in the open, exposing them as easy targets should the hammer fall again.

Both Jews and Christians in Russia feel that time is running out. They see changes taking place that will soon return Russia to an iron-fisted, autocratic dictatorship. Please pray for the safety of all of the precious believers living in these borders, and for the safe and speedy exodus of the Jewish people to their homeland in Israel.
