The bombing of a major Shiite
mosque by the Sunnis, killing more than 140 in early 2006, was in retaliation
for the daily killings of Sunni Muslims by the Shiite-led militias. It is
evident that the Shiites want to force a civil war on the country in order to
establish their autocratic control and to force the departure of American and
coalition troops. President Bush joined in calling for calm, saying, “This is a
moment of choosing for the Iraqi people.” Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari
reached out to both factions, promising to rebuild the Shiites’ Askariya shrine
in Samarra as well as the Sunni mosques damaged in two days of reprisal attacks.
Daytime curfews kept most vehicles off the streets, preventing the masses from
reaching mosques where the imams pump up their adrenalin, demanding retaliation
at a higher level. Some now were calling for calm. Heavily armed Iraqi police
guard the mosques. Sectarian anger remains high.
Late Friday, February 24, two rockets were fired in a village S.E. of Baghdad
that includes a Muslim tomb revered by Shiites. No damage. Two more rockets
exploded in the British Embassy compound in Baghdad’s heavily fortified Green
Zone. Minor injuries to 2 British workers resulted, the U.S. reported. Police
found at least 27 bodies in Baghdad and surrounding towns, they were sectarian
victims, including 5 Shiite men by gunmen who burst into their home in Latifiyah
south of Baghdad. A roadside bomb killed 2 policemen in Samarra. A husband and
wife were injured when police opened fire after the attack. An explosion set
fire to an oil pipeline south of the city.
In Washington, President Bush warned Americans to expect more bloodshed and more
political wrangling in Iraq. “But I’m optimistic because the Iraqi people have
spoken and make their intentions clear. They want their freedom. They want their
country to be a democracy.”
The Danger
The Shiite-Sunni confrontations are intended to scuttle U.S. hopes for an
inclusive government, with Shiites, Sunnis and Kurds working together so
American troops can begin heading home.
The biggest Sunni political bloc in parliament withdrew from talks on a new
government to protest the earlier attacks on Sunni mosques. U.S. officials were
relieved they returned to the discussions. The crisis delayed forming the
government by mid-May, but the new government did become a reality.
U.S. Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad acknowledged the grave danger facing Iraq,
saying, “I think this attack has had a Major impact here, getting everyone’s
attention that Iraq is in danger…”
The Shiite Muslims continue to do all the damage they can in hopes of forcing
the U.S. to leave so they can force Iraq to become a puppet under their ruthless
totalitarianism. Iraq would become a terrorist haven, exporting terror and hate
around the world.
Iraq in Bible Prophecy
This country has been host to many historic landmarks described in the Biblical
record, such as Creation and the Garden of Eden, Noah and the flood, Nimrod and
the Tower of Babel, Abraham, birth of the Jews, Daniel the Prophet and
Nebuchadnezzar, etc.
Its ancient name was Babylon, which was changed to Iraq in 1921 under the
British Mandate and the Balfour Agreement at the end of World War I.
The future Antichrist will headquarter in the newly rebuilt city of Babylon for
the first 3 1/2 years of the Tribulation (Isa. 14:4; Dan. 8:9-25; 9:27; 11:45;
12:11; Mt. 24:15; 2 Thess. 2:4). Iraq will become one of Antichrist’s closest
allies, along with Iran and Greece (Rev. 13:1-2; etc.). The stage is almost set
for the fulfillment of these prophesies in the midst of the coming Tribulation
(Rev. 6-19). Y
HAMAS MEETS WITH
RUSSIAN OFFICIALS
A Hamas spokesman said that their meeting with Russian officials in the
beginning of March was intended to gain international legitimacy after winning a
surprise victory in the January 25, 2005 Palestinian elections. Hamas has
thousands of murders on their very dirty track-record, including dozens of
recent suicide bombings in Israel. Hamas has openly and frequently sworn to
destroy all Jews and the Jewish State. The United States, the European Union and
Israel list Hamas as a terrorist organization.
Israel said it will have no ties with the new Hamas-led Palestinian government
unless the militant group denounces all violence, recognizes Israel’s right to
exist and accepts past peace deals.
Why did Russia Meet Hamas?
Russia’s invitation to Hamas angered Israel, which is seeking to isolate the
renown terrorist group and cut off its international funding. Turkey’s Foreign
Minister, Abdullah Gul met Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal in Ankara on February 17.
Israel condemned the meeting.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said the Moscow talks were to pull Hamas
into the Mideast peace process. Negotiations were intended to take the position
of the so-called “Quartet” of Mideast peace mediators—Russia, the U.S., the UN,
and the EU.
The Hamas delegation was headed by Khaled Mashaal, who arrived in Moscow March
3.
Israel’s Cabinet approved an immediate freeze on the transfer of hundreds of
millions of dollars in tax money designated to the Palestinians, holding off
more drastic measures recommended by the security officials. Israel is concerned
that they might be condemned by international reaction if they took firmer
action to squeeze Hamas out of their power position.
The election of Hamas into leadership of the Palestinians in Israel by Muslim
popular vote proves that the Muslim hate propaganda is stronger than their
desire for democratic freedoms. Hamas is now in a much better position to
organize and launch more sophisticated attacks against Jews in Israel.
IRAN PLEDGES TO PAY THE BILLS WHILE HAMAS IS IN POWER
Days after Israel publicly condemned the entry of Hamas into the Palestinian
leadership, Iran publicly pledged to fund all of the Palestinian’s needs. The
Iranian entry into the equation assures that there will be increased militancy
in the months to come.
The Iranian Bear is prophesied to “stamp the residue” in the coming Tribulation
(Dan. 7:5; Rev. 13:1-2). Iran will be one of Antichrist’s closest allies, along
with Iraq (represented as a lion in Dan. 7:4; Rev. 13:1), and Greece
(represented as a leopard in Dan. 7:6; 8:20-23; Rev. 17:8-17).
The world stage is set for the beginning of the Tribulation. Before the
catastrophic judgments of God are unleashed in that record-blasting seven-year
period, Yeshua gives the redeemed His clear promise that He will catch His
born-again millions up to heaven, out of harm’s way (see Lk. 21:36; Rev.
3:10-11; etc.). Y
ASHES OF 187 PEOPLE LAUNCHED INTO SPACE
Cape Canaveral, FL (AP)—
The first “space funeral” was in 1997, with ashes of “Star Trek” creator Gene
Roddenberry and 23 others shot into space.
A March launch containing the remains of 187 people was the secondary payload on
a privately built Falcon 1 rocket. The capsules of ashes will orbit for years
before falling into Earth’s atmosphere.
Included in the payload were the ashes of actor James Doohan, who played chief
engineer Montgomery Scott on “Star Trek,” and Mercury program astronaut Gordon
Cooper, two men who popularized human space travel in their unique, worldly way.
Their families paid $995 to $5,300 for the bottles containing their loved one’s
ashes to be on the flight.
Cremation was practiced only by pagan tribes through the centuries. It was never
practiced by Jews or Christians. The Biblical warnings in 1 Cor. 3:16-17;
6:13-20; and 2 Cor. 6:16 plainly states that our bodies are not our own, but are
the property of our Creator. “Your body is the temple of God. If any man defile
(hurt, harm, mutilate) the temple of God, him shall God destroy.” In light of
this fearful statement, is clearly our responsibility to care for God’s
property, and protect it from any harm.

bodies a new popularity. The loss of Biblical-based faith in America has opened
the door to acceptance of the practice. Y
